The NCAVT – North Carolina Association of Veterinary Technicians, started as a small core group of technicians’ in1980. With a membership of 62 people, in 1987, the group officially became known as the North Carolina Association of Veterinary Technicians. Early in their existence, they were faced with a critical piece of legislation. In 1992, the NCAVT was involved in passing Bill 747. This legislation dictated that in order to be a veterinary technician in North Carolina, one must have graduated from an AVMA accredited program, pass the national exam as well as successfully pass a State administered exam. This important legislation maintained the professionalism of veterinary technology and made evident the respect legislators have for the very difficult and challenging career as a veterinary technician.
