Veterinary Technician Educational Requirements in North Dakota

In North Dakota, practicing veterinary technicians must have graduated from high school and then completed an associate degree program either online or through campus based North Dakota vet tech schools.  Most veterinary programs take sixteen to twenty-four months to complete.  Degrees must be obtained through an accredited school in order to take the national certification exam as well as well as the state licensing exam. Students can choose from over one hundred accredited schools, including some online programs.  Degrees can be specialized in small animals, large animals, and farm animals

Veterinary technicians in North Dakota must take general education coursework to complete the two year associate degree.  Degree specific courses include college algebra and science courses in biology, anatomy, and physiology. Students can expect to take several pathology courses to learn clinical care of the animal such as laboratory testing on all of the major systems of an animal.  Diagnosis and treatment of disease will also be a consideration and will be taught in classroom and laboratory setting.  Hands-on experience is an important part of the degree program, allowing students a chance to understand the true daily duties of a licensed veterinary technician.
