Nurse Practitioner Salaries in Florida - FL

The Florida Area Health Education Centers states that in 2009, the average nurse practitioner salary in Florida was $83,646. Because the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics groups nurse practitioners with all other registered nurses for salary statistics, this figure is higher than their quoted annual salary for RNs in Florida of $62,270. It makes sense, though, that NPs would earn a higher annual salary than RNs, as they must take advanced education beyond that of a traditional RN.

Some cities in Florida pay NPs more than others. The following NP salary figures for some of Florida’s largest cities were taken from indeed.com:

  • Orlando:  $80,000
  • St. Petersburg:  $81,000
  • Tampa:  $82,000
  • Jacksonville:  $78,000
  • Miami:  $85,000

Just as certain cities pay higher NP salaries than others, certain specializations within the NP profession produce a higher income than others. Indeed.com provided the following salary statistics for these NP specializations in Florida:

  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner:  $95,000
  • Oncology Nurse Practitioner:  $92,000
  • Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner:  $89,000
  • Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner:  $103,000
  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner:  $89,000
  • Family Practice Nurse Practitioner:  $109,000
  • Geriatric Nurse Practitioner:  $95,000

The makeup of Florida’s population may explain why some NP specializations pay more than others. According to US Census Bureau 2009 figures, Florida’s largest groups of citizens include children under 18 (21.9%), people over 65 (17.2%) and women (50.8%).
