Lactation Consultant Schools in Oklahoma - OK

If the healthcare profession of Lactation Consultant appeals to you, you will find many avenues for Lactation Consultant Training in Oklahoma.  The more metropolitan areas of Tulsa, Norman, and Oklahoma City offer the most options but in this day of advanced technology, it is possible to secure the necessary education via the internet from the most rural locations in the state.

Oklahoma adheres to the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) to certify Lactation Consultants. There are three different paths a prospective consultant can travel to qualify for the examination and acquire this certification.  Each path is designed to incorporate your specific existing education and clinical experience and to clearly specify what is needed to qualify you for certification as a Lactation Consultant. Regardless of the path that best suits your needs; you will be required to complete anywhere from 300 to 1000 hours of hands-on clinical experience and at least 45 hours of education in human lactation and breastfeeding to qualify for the certification exam. At present, there are no requirements on licenses, certifications, degrees, etc. that must be obtained before a person can become certified as a Lactation Consultant.  There are only the requirements set down by the International Board of Lactation Consultants as a prerequisite to taking the certification exam.  As with any profession, the more education and experience you can gather, the more options you will have as a working professional.
