An undergraduate degree is not required to secure employment in the medical transcription field in Oklahoma. Employers in the field do suggest that interested candidates enroll in an accredited curriculum, or in an educational institution that has an Associate’s Degree program in medical transcription. As a prerequisite, individuals are expected to type at least 45 words a minute and exhibit exceptional written and verbal communications proficiency. Oklahoma requires medical transcriptionists to perform a minimum of 30 credit hours or continuing education to renew their licenses. The 30-hour requirement is expected to be met every three years.
