Become a Medical Transcriptionist in Oklahoma - OK

Oklahoma Medical Transcription Training Programs

Medical transcription is a good choice for parents who have small children at home, as many medical transcriptionists perform their job function remotely. Telecommuting is also a great way to cut costs associated with day care, travel expenses, and affords the opportunity for a parent to spend quality time with their children at home.

There are a variety of programs for medical transcription training in Oklahoma. Residents of Oklahoma who wish to apply for a medical transcriptionist certification, must have completed a minimum of two years in a job within a hospital setting. The experience gained during these two years, which usually includes health reporting, proficiency with several dictating machines, and medical case histories, prepares individuals for the Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) examination. The test is administered by Thomson Prometric. For those who haven’t achieved the prerequisite two-years of job experience in the field, the Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT) test is available to help enhance their resumes. The RMT is also given by Thomson Prometric. Both examinations are approved by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) and can be taken either online at Thomson’s Web site, or in person at one of the company’s many testing locations. Fees for the exams run anywhere from $120 to $275, depending upon which exam is being taken and whether the applicant holds membership in AHDI.
