Pediatric Nursing Colleges in Texas - TX

Over 100 nursing colleges in Texas offer numerous nursing degree programs, along with specialty concentrations.  Clinical hours are mandatory for all nursing students, including those who take online nursing courses.  The state of Texas maintains mandated articulation agreements, which are formal legislative agreements, outlining how nursing students can transfer credits between programs and colleges.

BSN programs usually designate the first year for completion of prerequisites.  Following this, pediatric nursing students should plan on up to four years to finish their BSN programs, which include a mix of general education courses, followed by nursing courses combined with relevant electives.  Time for completion may vary depending on the student’s status – either part time or full time – along with the chosen specialty field of study.  The BSN program provides PN students with the knowledge and practical experience necessary to treat children, as well as furnishing them with the knowledge necessary to qualify for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses, also known as the NCLEX-RN.

MSN programs for aspiring pediatric nurse practitioners (PNPs) require between 18 and 24 months of study and clinical rotations, with variations based on specialty courses.  PNPs  in Texas must also maintain prescriptive authority and complete continuing education units totaling 20 hours to demonstrate ongoing competency.
