Pediatric Nursing Colleges in Utah - UT

Over two dozen nursing colleges in Utah offer apediatric nursing degree programs of various levels and related specialized fields.  All nursing students, whether taking classes on campus or online, must complete a designated number of clinical hours.  The state of Utah defines how nursing students may transfer credits from one program to another through individual school-to-school articulation agreements.

BSN nursing students usually need the first year of their programs to complete prerequisites.  Subsequently, pediatric nursing students need as many as four years to fulfill requirements for general education courses, as well as specific nursing courses and various electives relevant to their courses of study.  A nursing student’s specialized area of study, along with part time or full time status, determine the number of required credit and clinical hours.  In addition to acquiring the practical hands-on experience and competence to treat children, graduates earn eligibility to take the NCLEX-RN, which is the acronym for National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses.

MSN nursing students usually complete their programs and clinical hours within two years.  Variations in electives and specialized areas of study affect the overall time required for pediatric nurse practitioner students.  Most PNPs also must retain prescriptive authority as well as fulfill continuing education requirements.  According to the Utah State Board of Nursing Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, registered nurses earn license renewals every two years based upon fulfillment of one out of three options: 30 contact hours, OR 200 practice hours and 15 contact hours, OR 400 practice hours.
