Radiologic Technologist Job Description in Maryland - MD

The Maryland Board of Physicians controls the rules and regulations regarding radiologic technologist jobs in Maryland. The scope of practice of a radiologic technologist, as outlined by the Maryland Board of Physicians, is very specific in what one may and may not do. First, a radiologic technologist may only practice under the supervision of a physician. He or she is also permitted to administer contrast media after consultation with a physician who is physically on the premises. He or she may not, however, administer any narcotic or sedating medicines or administer PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) lines under any circumstances.

A variety of job possibilities are available for those who have a two-year degree and are seeking radiology technologist jobs in Maryland. Radiologic technologists who get a bit more education and clinical experience under their belts may wish to specialize in computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), mammography, interventional radiography and quality management applications. Another year of education beyond that of a traditional radiologic technologist will help one earn a sonographer position. Of course, even with the appropriate education, each specialty imaging modality requires a separate certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
