Radiology Technologist Schools in Illinois - IL

Prospective radiographers in the “Land of Lincoln? will enroll in radiologic technologist training programs found within medical facilities, and through either campus based or online universities. Radiologic technology programs train students to work in a variety of capacities with foci that include medical radiography, radiation therapy, and diagnostic radiography.

Schools that offer radiographic technology majors usually have a two-year minimum program, and grant students associate degrees. Some schools require students to complete entrance requirements, such as prerequisite courses in math and science and an entrance exam. Once enrolled, students can expect to take courses with such titles as radiographic procedures, fundamentals of radiography, radiographic exposure, radiation protection, imaging systems and medical ethics and law.

All students must participate in clinical experiences outside of the school setting. These usually take place in a medical facility that is working in partnership with the school you attend. Examples of possible clinical practicum sites in Illinois include Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, Evanston Hospital in Evanston, Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, and Crawford Memorial Hospital and Health Services in Robinson.

Upon graduation, students must pass a national certification examination before they may apply for radiologic technologist licensure in Illinois.
