Ultrasound Technicians in the State of Rhode Island must go through an Associate's degree program that is approved by the ARRT or the the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). An Associate's degree will combine general classes, major classes, and  clinical experience to prepare aspiring Ultrasound Technicians for their field.

An Associate's degree program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Medical Imaging takes two to three years to complete, depending on how the institution structures its program. DMS and MI programs offered by Rhode Island ultrasound technician schools usually include general classes in English, mathematics, communications, the sciences, and the humanities; they also include major courses in ethics, sonographic physics, human anatomy, echocardiography, and vascular, neural and abdominal sonography. Students should use their general education courses as a means of building strong analytical, critical thinking, clinical observation, and interpersonal communication skills.

Ultrasound Technicians in the State of Rhode Island must gain 24 continuing education credits for every biennial renewal period. Continuing education credits are regulated by the State and the ARRT, and can come in the form of academic classes, seminars, and ARRT or ASRT-sponsored programs.
