South Dakota Dental Assistants Schools

There are a few options for South Dakota dental assistant schools. There is a dental assistant apprenticeship training program available in this state. Sponsorship of the program is provided by the Black Hills District Dental Society and a dentist must be a member of the society in order to sponsor someone in the program. Sponsorship is a requirement of the program and the student must be a working dental assistant under a licensed dentist. Classroom and clinical instruction are provided by the program as is on-the-job training. After training, the person will be able to perform duties as an Advanced Dental Assistant as well as expanded functions and x-rays.

For those wanting to pursue a career in dental assisting, they can look into Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)-approved programs in dental assisting if someone wants to make sure that their program is approved.

South Dakota Dental Assistant Continuing Education Requirements

Advanced dental assistants with expanded functions in South Dakota must earn at least 60 hours of continuing education in a five-year period and maintain a CPR card.
