South Dakota Vet Tech School

South Dakota Veterinary Technician Education

There are South Dakota vet tech schools accredited by the Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA), a division of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).  One would receive an Associate in Applied Science degree upon graduating from the veterinary technology program.  This particular program is designed in 8 quarters with the final quarter being an externship.  The externship consists of working along side a veterinarian in a veterinary facility.  This experience will provide the student to apply knowledge learned from coursework into a “real world? situation, such as patient care, surgical preparation, maintenance of equipment, and radiological/laboratory procedures.  The college offers a flexible schedule to meet the demand of it's students.  They offer day, evening, and weekend classes for the “non-traditional? student.  Even online courses are offered to accommodate the student who may be trying to balance work, school, and family.  In addition, the college offers multiple start dates and year-round class schedules.
