Physical Therapy Programs in Texas - TX

In order to become a physical therapist in Texas, you must first obtain a bachelor’s degree in a pre-physical therapy program at a four-year university.  The majority of these programs are biology based, but there are other options including kinesiology and exercise science.  Upon completion of this degree, additional education is required in the form of a master’s degree.  A doctorate degree is suggested as the next step but is not required at this time.  There are a few Texas physical therapy schools and a variety of options to earn your physical therapy degree from an online university.

Texas Physical Therapy Continuing Education

Continuing Education Requirements are established by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.   In order to renew a Physical Therapist license, 30 continuing education hours must be completed prior to renewal every two years. These hours can be achieved through attendance at approved conferences, completion of college or university courses, home study courses, in-services, and publications to approved journals.  Additionally, the applicant must also complete the Texas Jurisprudence Exam upon license renewal.   Therapists are not required to submit their continuing education hours; a signed statement verifying completion of the necessary hours is all that is required.  Random audits are performed during each renewal period; if selected, appropriate documentation is required to be submitted to the Board.  Falsifying documentation will result in disciplinary action by the Board.
