Radiology Tech School in Texas - TX

Educational options in Texas for those seeking a career as a radiology technologist are offered in two forms. Although they each differ slightly from one another, each individual program will more than adequately prepare the student for their intended career.

The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) has accredited 38 Texas radiology technician schools; 30 of these programs are associate degree programs. Associate degree programs are offered through community colleges statewide and provide classroom learning and instruction onsite. Once this portion is completed, the student is then expected to perform the clinical learning portion, which is offsite at an affiliated hospital or clinic radiology department. This allows the student to interact with professionals in the field, as well as patients, in order to gain experience in the actual job setting. An associate’s degree program will take one and a half to two years to complete.

The remaining eight Texas radiology technician schools are certificate programs. Certificate programs are different from associate degree programs in that all of the instruction (classroom and clinical) is all performed onsite. These programs are built within radiology departments in hospitals and the hospital staff is the primary instructors. One and a half to two years will be required to complete this type of program.
