Accreditation of the AHDI

Perhaps the best thing that you can do when looking at Utah medical transcription schools is to find a school that is accredited by the Association of Healthcare Documentation Integrity, more commonly known as the AHDI. When there is no state license for a particular career, it becomes even more important to seek out other methods of credibility.

The AHDI has set some very highly recommended standards and ethics for the medical transcription field as a whole, and they are very firm on what a medical transcription program must include before it can be accredited. For this reason, you should become familiar with the AHDI and all of the resources that they can provide for you to find a valuable education.

Certificate Program and Associate’s Degree

The certificate program and the associate’s degree are the two options that you will have as a medical transcriptionist in Utah. The course schedule for a certificate program takes about 9 months to complete, and the associate’s degree will take roughly 2 years. The associate’s degree will include basic core education requirements and will have an emphasis on medical transcription.

For the most part, both of these options are sufficient to finding employment in this field. However, it is more important that the educational curriculum be accredited by the AHDI. The degree option is completely up to you and neither have much value over their other in this field, but you will soon learn that accreditation from the AHDI of any program that you choose is a usually stipulation of employment.
