Utah Vet Tech School
Veterinary Technician Training and Education in Utah
On-site college programs offered through Utah vet tech schools include an Associate of Applied Studies degree in Veterinary Technology that is offered in three metro locations. One location is fully accredited and one location has provisional accreditation. There is also a bachelor’s degree program in Veterinary Nursing, which is an unusual offering for this career field. External degree programs in veterinary technology are plentiful, but those approved by the AAVSB must include an internship or externship that provides the hands-on clinical experience that technicians need to qualify for the TVNE exam. Prospective students should research the available online options to make sure they provide an experiential component of some type that will qualify graduates to take the national exam.
Continuing education is a requirement for maintaining certification through the AAVSB, and there are many opportunities for obtaining CEUs and other credentials required by the certification renewal process. Veterinary technology education programs offer workshops and training. The Utah Association of Veterinary Technicians is also a good resource for continuing education options. As of February 2010 the organization does not have a working website, but can be reached at 1554 Westlane Ct. Provo, UT 84601.
