Veterinary Technician Training and Education in Vermont

Although there are veterinary tech programs at technical colleges in Vermont, vet techs in this state are able to pursue training online. Because the VVTA has a private certification process many veterinarians in Vermont choose to hire technicians who have attained certification. Certified vet techs usually command higher salaries and garner more respect from the veterinarians they assist. Graduates of online or campus based Vermont vet tech schools also more readily receive promotions and locate positions as veterinary tech supervisors. State certification also helps technicians meet the reciprocity requirements for other states should they eventually relocate outside of Vermont.

Currently there are a number of online post-secondary education programs in Vermont accredited by the AVMA. Students can access veterinary technology programs in neighboring New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, or Maine and then seek certification in Vermont upon completion. Some of these programs are within commuting distance of Vermont communities and may be manageable as campus-based programs. Students can also complete one of many distance-learning programs that qualify them to sit for the VTNE exam.
