How to Become a Radiology Tech in Virginia - VA

Upon graduating from a Virginia radiology tech training program, one must pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists board exam. State licensure has been also required to practice in Virginia as an xray tech since December 25, 1996. Everyone practicing as a radiologic technologist in Virginia must have an active license except those employed by a licensed hospital. If employed by a hospital one must just act within the scope of employment.

Upon graduating from an accredited radiology tech training program, one must apply for licensure. The application process typically takes between 6 and 8 weeks to complete.

Specialty Fields

Specialty fields that are related to radiologic technology include mammography, ultrasound, CT, and MRI. Separate licensures must be earned for these specialty focuses.

Virginia Radiology Tech Continuing Education

In Virginia 24 continuing education units are required every two years to maintain a license as a rad tech. For those with a “limited�? license, 12 hours are required. Some states do not require documentation of these continuing education hours, but Virginia law does require this.
