Veterinary technicians in Washington are licensed by the state and provide valuable assistance to veterinarians and research scientists in a variety of clinical settings. In addition to the requisite education, training and examination requirements, veterinary technicians in Washington must complete AIDS training through either self-study, direct patient care, or formal training, and must provide proof of such during the license application process.

Veterinary Technician Training and Education in Washington

There are a number of Washington vet tech schools offering programs that provide the level of practical experience and coursework that is accepted by the Washington Board of Health. Students can also access external degree programs that are approved by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA). The Washington State Association of Veterinary Technicians (WSAVT) also offers a large number of training opportunities that can be accessed by technicians as continuing education training for license renewal.

Licenses are granted in Washington for a three-year period, and must be renewed within 90 days of their expiration date to avoid a “reinstatement�? fee. Renewal fees are $40 if renewal is completed prior to the expiration date. Technicians must earn 30 hours of continuing education credits to qualify for renewal.
