Education for West Virginia Veterinary Technicians
The most popular ways to complete a RVT mandated educational training program in West Virginia, is by enrolling an either a two-year associate or four-year bachelor program through area community colleges, vocational/technical colleges, online schools, or state universities. Students enrolling in RVT programs offered through West Virginia vet tech schools can expect coursework in many science and health care specific topics including: anatomy and physiology, chemistry, microbiology, parasitology, animal diseases, basic animal care and handling techniques, pharmacology, basic veterinary clinical procedures, and health management skills.
Continuing education is mandatory for all RVT in West Virginia. A total of six approved hours/credits of continuing education must be completed each year. These hours must be classroom based, and could include: educational videos, group online activities, lectures, guest speakers, self-study materials and professional seminars or workshops. Documentation proving credits must accompany renewal applications.
