Cardiac Sonography Training in Wisconsin - WI

If you are interested in pursuing cardiac sonographer training in Wisconsin, it’s worth noting that most programs require a few prerequisites before enrollment is allowed. You must graduate with an associate degree from an American Medical Association (AMA) approved program in a field of allied health. This program must include the following courses: physics, communications, patient care, medical ethics, law, medical terminology, human anatomy and human physiology. Some degrees that are generally accepted include nursing, radiologic technology, medical technology, respiratory therapy, and occupational or physical therapy assistant degrees.

Upon graduation, you may enroll in a cardiac sonography program. Most of these programs last 18 months and vary between didactic, classroom coursework and the clinical, hands-on portion. For the clinical component, many training programs require 24 to 32 hours per week working on-site under the supervision of a registered cardiac sonographer in a medical facility within the state, such as Aurora Saint Luke's Medical Center, Saint Joseph's Hospital, University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics or Saint Mary's Hospital. After graduation, or even before, many programs encourage you to take a certification exam to qualify you as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer or Registered Vascular Sonographer (if you take a test from Cardiovascular Credentialing International). You may also opt to take the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography exam in Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI), Adult Echocardiography or Vascular Sonography. Having these credentials will increase your chances of getting a job as an echocardiographer in Wisconsin.
