Wyoming Veterinary Technician Schools

Right now there are an estimated 160 vet tech educational training programs nationwide. In Wyoming both online and campus based vet tech schools are accredited by the AVMA. These Wyoming vet tech schools offer four-semester associate’s degrees in Applied Science. Veterinary technician students can receive all their training and education through distance learning, or online programs. Currently, there are 9 such programs in existence. These programs are provided by community colleges, technical colleges, and state universities in the following locations:

-Sterling, Virginia
-Weyers Cave, Virginia
-Lancaster, Texas
-Birmingham, Alabama
-Fond du Lac, Wisconsin
-Scottsdale, Arizona
-West Lafayette, Indiana
-St. Petersburg, Florida
-Farmington, New Mexico

No matter where education occurs, students can expect coursework that covers general science subjects like biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology and pharmacology. In addition, students will need to learn career-specific animal care knowledge such as: animal communication, animal behavior, animal education, and animal breeding. Furthermore, all programs must also instruct on laboratory or clinical setting procedures including first-aid techniques, surgical preparation, and basic nursing skills.  

For VTs, education does not end with the completion of a training program. In Wyoming, CVTs must complete at least 10 hours of approved and documented continuing education hours/credits every two years to maintain professional status and certification. These hours must be focused on veterinary technician topics and trends and can be earned through videos instruction, online activities, WyVTA sponsored events, lectures, or professional workshops and seminars.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Veterinary Techs in Cheyenne, Casper, Laramie, Gillette and Rock Springs, Wyoming can prepare themselves for careers at some of the best animal hospitals and facilities in the country.
